I think we all suffer small bouts of depression this time of year, but mine’s been more tenatious and has lasted longer than I would expect it to. I really don’t like the idea of medicating the pain away, so does anyone have any suggestions for an effective “home remedy”?

if you really dont want to try standard pharmaceutical treatments, look for the brand Bach in your health food shop, they have a range of homeopathis treatments including their ‘rescue remedy’ which can be used to calm and lift your spirits. Be careful not to ignore the fact you may need medical treatment and/or counselling

I used to use St. John’s Wort. It worked really well for a long time, then I wound up getting Bipolar 2 with major depression, so I had to go on prescription meds.

Log grade – medium grade – high grade. It doesn’t matter where you stand. Depression is in the mind, not in the body. Depression will effect your body but it starts in the mind. The home remedy is meditation. Learn to calm your mind, release the past stresses, get a new perspective, then go out and kick life in the butt.

Do it through nutrition. Do not eat anything that is processed or filled with chemicals. No sodas. No sugar. No white flour.
Physically, get off of the computer and go outside. Go anywhere but stay at home or work.

My husband suffers from periodic depression. Several years ago I was buying different things for him to try. Everyone is different on what works best for them. He found that an herb called Gotu Kola works best for him. He doesnt take it all the time, only when he is having bouts with depression. Good Luck finding what works best for you.

take a very good multivitamin and keep busy so your mind does not wonder, do things you really enjoy yet take time out for yourself everyday, or else you will go deeper in depression if you sit around and feel sorry for youself and try and talk to someone close to you, it really helps alot, good luck

You ask specifically for a homeopathic remedy for depression and there are quite a few, however, it would do you no service to name any of them. Depression is very individual as are the remedies – which act on the physical, mental and emotional levels – one or several will help you but you need a consultation with a qualified homeopath to find out which. Over the years I must have used over 20 remedies in curing patients suffering with depression.

I remember reading an article about a study done with Saint John’s Wort, where they were comparing it to standard medications. In this study, they found that is was just as effective, with NO symptoms. The only people who dropped out because of symptoms were the ones taking a placebo…
Throughout history Saint Johns Wort has also been believed to drive away negativity and demons.
Personally, I take it for my SAD and it works wonders. Just take the standardized amount every day.
Of course, always look up the research on any new thing you are going to use, but I HIGHLY recommend Saint John’s Wort.

Pamper yourself.(with food!) Your doctor won’t say “Drinking hot coca w/marshmellows while watching TV” will be heathly, but its nice. Don’t do this too much though. Plus excersize can be happiness-inducing! Have you every heard of a depressed athlete who’s sad —on the court?— This is because excersize releases (I forget wat) from your brain, and this (chemical) ups your mood!
BTW: stay warm, and sunlight helps. Sometimes the brain thinks “warmth and light” when in the sun, and sometimes may take this literally, by making yourself feel “happy and fun”

Bananas and plantains contain serotonin and dopamine, which are biogenic (produced by living organisms) amines. Serotonin and dopamine produced by the body are known to influence mood and appetite
