<p>A recent study* of 4,700 women found that women who wore bras had an increased chance of acquiring breast cancer. It is very possible that the constant pressure that the bra puts on the breast is limiting the flow of toxins that need to be released, resulting in the increased cancer rate. Any more than a gentle amount of pressure can flatten the lymphatic vessel and stop the toxic flow from the breast.<br />
<span id="more-2373"></span><br />
The Study found the highest rate of breast cancer in those who wore bras 24 hours a day, and the lowest rate in those who never wore bras. The study suggested that women should wear their bra less than 12 hours a day.</p>

<p>Self Care Breast Massage</p>
<p>Gentle breast massage will benefit all women and lessen the risk of breast cancer.<br />
Gentle-to-moderate kneading, rubbing, and squeezing strokes with the hands are sufficient to induce increased lymph and blood flow to the breast.</p>
<p>How to do it?</p>
<p>The breast can be kneaded and squeezed by contracting the palm and fingers of the hand (somewhat like a handshake) or the breast can be rubbed and stroked using the palm and fingers of the hand using gentle-to-moderate pressure.<br />
* Women&#8217;s breasts vary considerably in texture and sensitivity to pressure. Therefore, gentle strokes should be for those who are sensitive or have softer breasts. Moderate pressure may be more effective for those with firmer-textured breasts.</p>
<p>Breast Massage</p>
<p>This procedure should be done at least twice a week. It can be done on bare skin, but you may find that using some vegetable oil may be more comfortable (do not use mineral-based or scented oils).</p>
<p>* Step One: Use your fingers to gently smooth away from the nipple. These movements travel from the nipple and directly away using no more pressure than what you would apply to your eyelid. Any more pressure would flatten the lymphatic vessel and stop the flow of toxins and fluids. Also, make this stroke slow, not fast, for it to be effective.<br />
* Step Two: Gently massage the breast with a kneading-like motion, using lifting and pressing movements.<br />
* Step Three: Slowly and carefully use your hands to twist the breast in a clock-wise and counterclockwise direction, being careful not to put too much tension on the breast.<br />
* Step Four: Use both hands as shown to apply several, moderate pressure compressions to move out more pressure fluids.</p>

As for the knives and spoons, they often go hand in hand with spready and creamy: mayo, peanut butter, ice cream. It takes a fork to dig in to healthier stuff like crunchy salads, steamed fresh vegetables, and chewy lean meats, explains Jennifer Vimbor, M.S., R.D., a nutritionist with a private practice in Chicago.</p>
<p>Solved Scale down your dishes and silverware&#8211;look for plates that are no more than 10 inches in diameter (a little bigger than your hand with fingers outspread), and limit yourself to teaspoons and dessert forks. &#8220;Using smaller utensils forces you to take smaller bites, making the meal last longer and giving you time to feel full,&#8221; says Amy Baertschi, M.S., R.D., a dietitian for the San Francisco Bay Club, a health and fitness center. If you don&#8217;t want to replace all of Mom&#8217;s china, get creative: Swap a mega soup bowl for a mug, a ramekin, or anything less than five inches in diameter. For an even quicker fix, try this: Wrap a rubber band around the handles of all your spoons and knives as a reminder to reflect on what you&#8217;re about to shovel in. A study in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity showed that merely weighing the pros and cons of your next meal or snack before you chow down is strongly linked to weight-loss success. <p>There&#8217;s something rotten in your kitchen, and if you sniff your way to the fridge, you&#8217;ll discover what: lots of withered, unident­ifiable green corpses in the crisper drawer.</p>

A 2008 study in the journal Preventing Chronic Disease showed that women who ate five daily servings of produce and stayed away from fast food were more likely to lose weight and keep it off than those who didn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>Solved Make it easier to live up to your own good intentions by being realistic when you shop. &#8220;Even though you might want to buy a bunch of interesting new veggies to kick off a diet, they can be so overwhelming that you don&#8217;t eat any,&#8221; says Lisa Dorfman, M.S., R.D., a sports nutritionist at the University of Miami. &#8220;Stick to one new vegetable at a time and buy others you know you like and will eat.&#8221; A good way to sample new fare: Regional produce delivery services, which will drop off an assort­ment at your doorstep for about $30 per shipment. To keep them from going to waste, get into the habit of prepping produce as soon as it enters your kitchen. &#8220;Cookies are a lot easier to grab, so remove the roadblocks to healthy eating,&#8221; Dorfman says. &#8220;Wash, dry thoroughly, and cut fruit and veggies and store them in plain sight. Make them scream your name when you open that refrigerator door.&#8221; If you&#8217;re still a serial celery slayer, keep your produce on ice. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>California, United States, October, 10: Adding more to the previous studies that have talked highly of health benefits of red wine, a new research has found that moderate consumption of red wine could decrease the risk of lung cancerdefine in men, especially among high-risk people such as smokers.<span id="more-2110"></span><br /></p>
<p>The study, published in Cancerdefine Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, found that an antioxidant component in red wine can decrease the risk of lung cancer. </p>
<p>U.S. researchers based their findings on data collected through the California Men&#8217;s Health study, which linked clinical data from California&#8217;s health system with self-reported data from 84,170 men aged 45 to 69 years. Of the study subjects, 210 developed lung cancer between 2000 and 2006. </p>
<p>In their study, lead researcher Dr. Chun Chao of Kaiser Permanente Southern California in Pasadena and colleagues measured the effect of beer, red wine, white wine and liquor consumption on the risk of lung cancer.</p>
<p>After accounting for the influence of age, education, income, exposure to second-hand smoke, body weight, and other relevant factors, Dr. Chao and colleagues found lung cancer risk is lowered an average of 2% for each glass of red wine consumed per month. They found the most substantial risk reduction among male smokers who consumed one or two glasses of red wine a day. </p>
<p>These men were 60 percent less likely to develop lung cancer than those who did not smoke daily and didn&#8217;t consume alcohol. But reduced lung cancer risk was seen only with red wine, not with other type of alcoholic beverage, like white wine.</p>
<p>&#8220;An antioxidant component in red wine may be protective of lung cancer, particularly among smokers,&#8221; said Dr. Chao.</p>
<p>The ingredient, called Resveratrol, is a polyphenolic compound which lies in the skin of red grapes and, therefore, in red wine. This compound had already shown some spectacular results of lower cardiovascular illnesses in worms, fruit flies and yeast. </p>
<p>&#8220;Red wine is known to contain high levels of antioxidantsdefine. There is a compound called resveratrol that is very rich in red wine because it is derived from the grape skin. This compound has shown significant health benefits in preclinical studies,&#8221; Chao said.</p>
<p>Though the research exhibits the strong association between the red wine and reduced lung cancer risk among smokers, researchers still warn men to quit smoking as the best way to curb lung cancer risk.</p>

You will not be perfect in your diet and exercise program, nor should you be.  Try this experiment:  Being rigid is similar to holding your breath, keep holding it, don&#8217;t blow it out yet, hold it, okay, now blow it out.  You probably blew it out with a lot of force because you held it for longer than you felt comfortable.  Rigid dieting and exercise are like a tightly wound spring that eventually has to release. </p>
<p>Before you begin a diet and exercise program, tell yourself that no matter what happens, rather than abandoning your new lifestyle, you&#8217;ll resume your healthy habits as soon as you can.  You do not have to wait until the following Monday, the first day of the next month or next year.  You don&#8217;t even have to wait until the next day; start again with your next meal.  You always have a fresh start to get back on track with your healthy habits. </p>
<p>It is equally important that you feel confident, not guilty, about doing so. Whatever the temptation or obstacle is, keep in mind that it&#8217;s not wrong or bad to eat fattening foods once in a while or to miss a workout. Just remember to resume your healthy lifestyle as soon as possible afterwards. If you keep moving forward and you don&#8217;t let guilt and discouragement stop your program all together, you&#8217;ll eventually have improved eating and exercise habits - with great results and success in your weight loss and health goals. </p>
<p>With this approach, there is no such thing as &quot;cheating.&quot; When we feel we are cheating, we often punish ourselves; we make ourselves feel guilty, frustrated and defeated. We also get into the perfectionist thinking.  We can&#8217;t have this or that ever again and if we stray, then we&#8217;ve blown it.  Replacing the negative concept of cheating with the idea of &quot;straying temporarily from healthy habits&quot; takes away the all-or-nothing emphasis of right and wrong. If you treat every deviation from your plan as a failure, you won&#8217;t get very far. Substituting the idea of a brief straying away from your plan instead of feeling guilty, and learning to return more and more quickly to healthier habits, is more realistic. It&#8217;s also easier and more enjoyable - today and in the long-run. </p>
<p>If you do anything in an all or nothing mode, you don&#8217;t practice moderation and balance. Healthy habits of diet and fitness are most success when you don&#8217;t think of them as success or failure.  It is progress and not perfection.  Practice healthy habits more times than you don&#8217;t.  Think in terms of the 80/20 guidelines.  80% of the time, you eat according to your healthy nutritional program and are active; 20% of the time, you relax your guidelines.  This allows for balance and living your life in a healthy, easier mode of moderation.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hypothyroidism is a very common problem with thyroid related illness and can cause you to have low energy, concentration problems, it can affect mood and cause you to gain weight. If you have chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia, I would suggest that this is one of the first things you should have checked. But there are some particularly telling  but little known  signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism that some doctors, and even fewer patients, are aware of, but can help lead to the correct diagnosis.<br />
<span id="more-897"></span></p>
<p>Hypothyroidism is very often associated with hair loss. You may notice a heavier-than-normal loss of hair from the head. Even body hair,  including underarm and pubic hair  may shed or thin. This sort of hair loss can be due to a thyroid problem, but it can also show up with other hormonal imbalances, illnesses, age, and due to genetics and heredity. </p>
<p>If you have any unexplained hair loss, and especially, if you have loss of hair from the outer edge of your eyebrows, it&#8217;s time for a thorough thyroid evaluation from a knowledgeable practitioner. But one type of hair loss is considered unique to hypothyroidism. It is the loss of the hair in the outer edge of the eyebrows. This is a characteristic sign of hypothyroidism, and is not linked to other diseases. </p>
<p>Many people have elevated cholesterol levels, and doctors are becoming more aggressive about recommending treatment. Often for borderline-high levels, doctors recommend a trial of diet and exercise to get the numbers down and back into balance. If that doesn&#8217;t work, or if the numbers are especially high, doctors may recommend cholesterol-lowering drugs, most commonly, the statin drugs, like Lipitor. </p>
<p>Undiagnosed, untreated hypothyroidism can make elevated cholesterol resistant to treatment. Despite diet, exercise and prescription medications, cholesterol levels may remain high, confounding doctors and patients alike. Generally, if you have high cholesterol, you should always have a thorough, comprehensive thyroid evaluation to completely rule out hypothyroidism before taking cholesterol-lowering thyroid medications. And if you are on cholesterol-lowering drugs that aren&#8217;t working, definitely talk to your doctor about your thyroid. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s one of those topics we often don&#8217;t want to discuss, but persistent or chronic constipation can be a sign of an under-active thyroid. Because the thyroid regulates metabolism, the metabolic slowdown of hypothyroidism also slows down the digestive system, and food moves more slowly through digestion and elimination, frequently resulting in chronic constipation. Often, common remedies  such as increasing water intake, fruits like dried prunes or prune juice, upping the fiber intake  are tried, with no results. Over-the-counter, herbal and prescription drugs may also fail to resolve the problem. If you are experiencing chronic constipation, you should always be exhaustively evaluated for an under-active thyroid. </p>
<p>Many women consider loss of sex drive as an unavoidable part of getting older, but it doesn&#8217;t have to be that way. Low  or no  sex drive may actually be a sign of undiagnosed, untreated hypothyroidism in some women.  If you have a problem with your libido, any medical workup your doctor does to evaluate you should also include a complete thyroid examination, to rule out low thyroid as a potential cause. There are even suspicions of infertility related to hypothyroidism. </p>
<p>As many as 21 million Americans  some 9.5% of the population age 18 and older  have a mood disorder, including major depression, dysthymic disorder (milder, longer-term depression), and bipolar disorder.  Depression and mood changes can be a symptom of untreated low thyroid. And unfortunately, some of the millions of people diagnosed and treated for depression and mood disorders are actually suffering from undiagnosed hypothyroidism. </p>
<p>There is no blood test for depression, so diagnosis is made based on a discussion of the symptoms. But thyroid disease diagnosis requires evaluation and testing, and so with today&#8217;s 5-minute doctor visits  and managed care cost containment, mood-related symptoms are quickly attributed to depression, and a prescription written for antidepressants or antianxiety medications, rather than a more time-intensive thyroid evaluation, and the cost of bloodwork to test the thyroid. </p>
<p>While some thyroid patients can have a separate mood disorder that also warrants treatment, it&#8217;s essential that everyone diagnosed with depression or other mood disorders be fully evaluated as early as possible to rule out any underlying thyroid imbalances. </p>
<p>When you request a test be prepared to tell the Doctor you want to test your TSH, T3 and T4 at the minimum. Most Doctors only test for TSH which is a weak base line to use for testing.</p>
