I’m 19 years old and it has been a year since I had my last chemotherapy treatment. My hair is still much thinner on the top of my head than it was before my treatment. Does anybody know how long it takes for someone to be sure that they have regrown all the hair they are going to regrow after chemotherapy? Also, does anybody have any idea if a place like Bosley hair restoration would perform a transplant on a chemotherapy patient, or do they just deal with natural hair loss?

Several women in my breast cancer support group found their hair came back thinner and that it grows more slowly than they had hoped.
I have seen several young men who unfortunately began to suffer from male pattern baldness as early as their late teens and early 20s. It’s possible that that is why it’s coming in thinner on top for you.
The hair that grow back is very fragile, so you have to treat it like a baby’s hair. Use only a very gentle baby shampoo like Burt’s Bees baby shampoo. Pat dry with a towel. A gentle conditioner would be helpful too (most Burts Bees products are natural and gentle).
Give it a little more time before you seek any intervention like a transplant. It must be hard for a young guy, especially after going through the treatments.

Your chemo treatment, I assume, was temodar or temodal, as other countries call it. I’ve not known of anyone that’s lost hair from taking that particular chemo. If they’ve tried other chemos on you because the temodar didn’t work, it could cause hair loss. It should grow back, but may take years to get back to its normal state. Are you getting brain scans regularly?
Hmmm, don’t know why I thought you had brain tumor. Maybe it’s my brain tumor that got me confuzzled! Either way, it could take years for your hair to grow back to normal or maybe thin is the new normal for you. Someone I know now has very fine, baby soft hair and it been 5 years since her last treatment.

I’ve heard that everyone’s hair comes back different. My hair seems like it’s taking forever to really grow in. I stopped chemo treatment last November, and my hair is near an inch long
I think it just takes some time. Ive heard stories of some people with flat hair having curly, and thick hair being thin. Im pretty sure its normal.

I am sorry for the horrible ‘other answer’ you received. (What kind of jerk is he?)
I’m sorry I don’t have the answer you seek.
I would seek answers from a forum on chemo at a reliable website like maybe Web MD, etc. Or google chemo / hair regrowth…
Again, I appologize for the other strange answer you received from the insensitive, non-helpful x%@.

hey man, i think a lot of people do experience hair growing back different after chemo, eg mine was straight before but is kinda wavy now. not sure about thinning though. looking outside the chemo… does balding run in your family? maybe the chemo just set it off earlier. why not give the hair restoration places a call? can’t hurt to ask.

After chemo therapy it co man to all and the chemotherapy value goes of the hair will grow again and chemo therapy has got no to stop normal functions after it is done.
